Lenten Concert

Lenten Music in the beautiful setting of St Bride’s Church

Thursday 27 February 2025 sees Vasari Singers returning to a favourite concert venue: the beautiful church of St Bride’s in Fleet Street. Later in the year, April 2025, the choir will be travelling to St Thomas Church, 5th Avenue in New York to join forces with the highly-esteemed Choir of Men and Boys for both concert and liturgical performances, and this concert in St Bride’s brings together highlights from their upcoming American tour. The beautiful 10-part Lotti Crucifixus gives way to three sections (including the joyous ‘Et resurrexit’) from Bach’s matchless Mass in B minor. Poulenc’s Lenten Motets follow and the first half closes with the powerful Miserere by James MacMillan. Works by two composers from the first part of the twentieth century fill the second half. Frank Bridge’s A Prayer, and Gerald Finzi’s uplifting Lo, the full, final sacrifice with its exquisite final ‘Amen’. Join Jeremy and the Vasari Singers to mark the coming season of Lent and experience the beauty, hope and sense of optimism that this music can bring the listener.
